INTRODUCTION
My name is Lorie Madsen and The Music Tarot is my way of healing through song.
For as long as I can remember, I have lived with chronic migraines and other health challenges. Growing up in a small Wisconsin town, I found comfort in the paranormal, spells, and eventually tarot cards. At sixteen, I started writing songs, and by my thirties, I felt called to create a musical tarot deck—a fusion of music and mysticism that became my greatest passion.
For decades, I lived in fear and self-pity, but over time, I learned to accept my traumas. I came to believe that my suffering gave me a deep understanding of the tarot’s archetypes and the ability to translate them into music.
In my forties, I began professionally developing these songs, but before finishing the first album, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. That diagnosis uncovered hidden truths about my childhood, revealing covert abuse that had shaped my nervous system and lifelong struggles.
Through my relentless pursuit of recovery, I realized The Music Tarot isn’t just a creative project—it’s my music therapy. Songwriting helps me reduce stress, manage pain, and reclaim my sense of self. Each track represents a tarot card in the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition, blending pop, folk, rock, and electro/synth elements into something innovative and deeply personal.
Wisconsin Public Radio described the songs as “devastatingly beautiful… so open, so honest, so beautifully produced—like a diary with music, telling someone’s journey.” That journey is mine, and I share it openly. By speaking my truth, I hope others find inspiration to heal their own wounds. We are all searching for inner peace—and I believe compassion and connection will lead us there.
