To those walking away from that which no longer serves you, this is your ballad - a song about learning to swim, when the stormy sky has clipped your wings. Come on in, the water's fine.
Just this week in fact, I resumed my swim workouts after taking 8 weeks off to heal from surgery. For me, it literally IS time to swim. The pool feels great but I am taking it slowly, only doing 15 laps instead of 30.
I pulled the Eight of Cups a year ago, on Friday, June 4, 2021 and wrote this card's epic ballad that same weekend. The recording and production was an iterative process over the next year. We thought it was finished in August 2021, but then I wanted to rework the vocals. This evolved into new guitars, modified percussion, and inevitably, levels changes. It became a confusing mess of swim lane upon swim lane of what looked like hundreds of tracks. I have no idea how Brian kept it all straight. There were moments of swear words and creased foreheads, but Sheer Will stuck around just long enough to inspire Genius. Brian pulled it together as I knew he would.
Now I invite you to join me in the tide. There's nothing to fear of its fall and rise.
